The Valašské Meziříčí district ranks sixth by population and eighth by area within the Zlín Region. Its population density of 185 residents per km² is the third-highest in the region. The district administers 18 municipalities, two of which have town status, with an urban population share of just under 60%.
For more than a hundred years, Valašské Meziříčí has been home to hand-woven tapestries, carpets, and artistic wall hangings — the only workshop of its kind in Moravia and Silesia.
