Rising above Bystřice pod Hostýnem is Svatý Hostýn, the highest and most-visited Marian pilgrimage site in Moravia. The area's natural landmark is the Hostýn Hills, at whose foot, at an elevation of 308 m, lie many of the region's villages. It's also here that the legendary Thonet No. 14 chair, one of the most famous chairs of all time, has been manufactured since 1859.
The center of the district, which comprises 13 municipalities and 1 town, is Bystřice pod Hostýnem, home to more than half of the district's population — 7,911 residents as of December 31, 2025. Although it's one of the smallest districts in the Zlín Region, the panorama of the Hostýn Hills, proximity to nature, and craft traditions make it a major draw.
