Kroměříž is the third-largest district by both area and population. The heart of the region is the ancient town of Kroměříž, whose Archbishop's Chateau, Podzámecká and Květná Gardens were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998. Ethnographically, the district's villages belong to the Haná region, celebrated through the folk Hanácké Slavnosti festival, held every odd year in Chropyně.
Nearly 67% of the district's population lives in its five towns, and the region is also home to a traditional basket-weaving craft.
